"We had a great weekend of competition and the guys were impressive across the board. We won the hammer, javelin, 800, 3k steeplechase, 5k, and the 10k. The guys that won those events were all big point scorers at the conference meet last weekend and they picked up right where they left off. Mitchell Burr's win in the 800 was an impressive sit and kick race off a fast pace. He has put his skill set to use with great effect in the last two races that he has run and looks very good as we move into the NCAA phase of competition in 2 weeks. Cam Smith continues to show great consistency in the hammer and has a knack for winning. He will be a player at the NCAA regional in Jacksonville. Parker Brosious picked up a nice victory in the javelin and is positioned well for the NCAA competition. He has been a consistent performer for us since he got here and I was happy to see him get a big win. Nathan Davis looked easy in winning the steeplechase. It was not a surprise to see him handle the field of runners as easily as he did. He has figured out how to race and now is a commanding runner with a great deal of confidence. He will do well in the NCAA regional. Garrett Gough got a big win in the 5k. He was patient throughout and then dropped a 2:06 800 in the middle of the race to break the race open. The field tried to stay with him but could not respond to his move and won easily. The biggest win of the night came from Matt Porter in the 10k. Matt ran in the pack for much of the race and was very comfortable for the first 4 miles. He broke the race open with 6 laps to go and took home the win easily. It was the first collegiate track win for him in his 4 year career and the last time he would represent Army. He graduates with a number of accolades and has much to look forward to as an officer but I think this win will be a special memory for him because it came in his last race." - Director of Track & Field Mike Smith
Coach's Corner (Women's)
"We had a great weekend of competition and the women that we brought down here were competitive. With the start of exams this weekend we were not able to bring a large group to the meet and that impacted our ability to score well. A few of the people that did not make the patriot league roster for their chance here and did quite well. Abigail Mcilvain (10k) was our lone champion this weekend. She has improved over the course of the season and ran a patient race that found her at the front with a mile to go and she capitalized from there. There were other notable performances from our throws group. Kayley ragazzini built upon her strong season by scoring well in multiple events. She will represent us at the NCAA regional meet and this was good preparation for that competition. We will find out about our NCAA qualifiers this week and I expect that we will have 5 women advance all from the throws group. They have set numerous records and made terrific improvements and they are positioned well for the championship meets ahead."Â - Director of Track & Field Mike Smith
