Matthew Palchak Named Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week
December 09, 2025 | Men's Track and Field
BETHLEHM, Pa. – Following an impressive showing at the Crowell Invite, Matthew Palchak was named the Patriot League Men's Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon the conference announced.
Palchak, a sophomore thrower from Davis, Calif., had a huge Saturday at the Crowell Invite to kick off the 2025-26 track and field season. He posted a first-place finish in the men's shot put with an impressive distance of 17.68m, while finishing fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 17.14m. Both distances were personal bests.
"Since arriving at West Point last year, Matt has become a staple of our throws program," Assistant Coach (Throws) Brian Woodbury said. "He has demonstrated the high level of consistency, dedication and work ethic required to be successful. He is a fearless competitor that has grown into a leader our team can count on. Matt's breakout performance this weekend wasn't a surprise to anyone in our training group, and we can't wait to see what else he accomplishes this season."
His shot put throw is the best mark in the Patriot League through the opening weekend of competition, with teammate Robby Manse behind him at 17.13m. In the weight throw, Palchak is sixth in the conference.
Palchak and the rest of the Black Knights will pause competition through the holidays but will be back in action at the West Point Invitational on Jan. 10.
