The Class of 1970 MacArthur Cup Award for Athletics is presented to the team of the year as determined by the Black Knight Awards committee.
2024: Women's Cross Country
Army women’s cross country placed five runners in the top ten at the Patriot League Championship to bring home the first Patriot League title since 2004. Sophomores Charlotte Richmand and Claire Lewis paced the Black Knights with top-four finishes.
The Black Knights also beat Navy for the first time since 2020, placing six in the top ten to claim the star. The program finished as high as ninth in the Northeast region, which was its highest ever placement. The team was led by Director of Track & Field Mike Smith and assistant coach Elise Moore.
2023: Men's Lacrosse
The Army West Point men’s lacrosse had a historic 2023 season. They picked up three top-10 wins en route to their first NCAA Tournament win since 2010 when they upset the defending national champions, Maryland.
Head Coach Joe Alberici, in his 18th season, led a team that was picked fourth in the preseason Patriot League to a co-regular season title and a Patriot League Conference Tournament Championship.
They ranked as high as no. 6 in the country and went on a nine-game win streak which was the longest since 2017.
2022: Men's Rugby
For first time in program history, Army West Point Men's Rugby was crowned the D1A Men's Rugby National Champions after powering past Saint Mary's, 20-8 from Aveva Stadium in Houston, Texas.
It marked the first time since 2003 that a service academy won a national championship in the sport of men's rugby, with the Black Knights outscoring its opponents 78-41 across four postseason games, including a first round victory over Air Force.
Led by Head Coach Matt Sherman, the Black Knights tabbed an impressive 17-3 record overall, dominating their conference with a flawless 5-0 record, including triumphs over both Navy and Air Force. Larry Williams Jr. went on to claim the 2021-22 Rudy Scholz Award as the top collegiate rugby player in the country.
