Track & Field To Send 12 Athletes to NCAA East Preliminary Championships

WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point track & field will send 12 athletes to the upcoming NCAA East Preliminary Track & Field Championships from May 24-27, hosted by the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Athletes attending the two regional meets will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships from June 7-10 in Austin, Texas. The meet will be livestreamed each day on ESPN+.

Army's greatest representation will come from its throwing unit, with eight throwers comprising the dozen. All five of Army's women come from the group, featuring Sophia Dykstra, Kayley Ragazzini, Nicole Sacchinelli, Brooke Stratman and Alexah Zaczynski. The men's side is made up of Chris Barrett, Cam Smith and Parker Brosious in the field with Mitchell Burr, Nathan Davis, Garrett Gough and Luke Griner in the track events.Â
Chris Barrett (Senior / Dillsburg, PA)
Barrett is coming off his Patriot League title in the javelin throw, with a career-best 71.66m mark to top the conference. Barrett has been atop the leaderboards throughout the season, achieving first-place finishes at the Beach Opener, Ben Brown Inivte and Penn Challenge while securing a second-place distance in the Army-Navy star meet.
Parker Brosious (Senior / Albuquerque, NM)Â
Brosious has been dominant in the javelin throw alongside Barrett this season, and is most recently coming off a win in the event at the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships this past week with a 61.72m distance. Brosious earned a third-place podium finish at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships and Army-Navy star meet, along with second-place finishes at the Ben Brown Invite and Beach Opener. His 65.67m throw at the Beach Opener marked a career-best.
Mitchell Burr (Junior / Thousand Oaks, CA)
Burr carried over his strong indoor season into the outdoor track, as one of Army's top performers in both the 800m and 1500m. Burr was a second-place finisher in the 1500m at the Patriot League meet, while posting a career-best 3:46.30 in the Army-Navy meet to earn second-place. He logged his personal-best in the 800m at the West Point Twilight with a 1:47.85 while winning the event at the ECAC/IC4A Championships with a 1:48.29. Other wins on the season for Burr include the 800m at the Penn Challenge and the 1500m at the Ben Brown Invite.
Nathan Davis (Freshman /Â East Greenbush, NY)Â
Davis has impressed as Army's top freshman this outdoor season, highlighted by his victory in the 3000m steeplechase at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships behind a career-best mark of 8:52.67. Davis followed up the performance with a victory in the event at the ECAC/IC4A Championships (8:57.37). He previously placed second in the steeplechase in the Army-Navy star meet with a 8:59.06. He is the lone freshman from the Black Knights to make the regional meet.
Sophia Dykstra (Sophomore / Oskaloosa, IA)
Dykstra has been an elite option for Army in the discus throw in just her sophomore campaign to this point, winning hte event at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships with a personal-best 50.87m. She began the season in third-place at the Beach Opener with a 43.75m, and improved throughout the season. She eclipsed the 50m mark at hte Penn Challenge in March, earning a second-place finish in the event. She also earned second at the Larry Ellis Invite at Princeton while landing in third in the Army-Navy star meet.
Garrett Gough (Senior / Nevada City, CA)
Gough has made the most of his opportunities in his final outdoor season, landing in the top-two in all six events run across the season. He claimed first-place at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in the 5000m most recently (13:58.58) while earning second-place in both the 5000m and 10000m at the Patriot League Championships. His 29:11.99 in the 10000m marked a personal-best on the way to victory at the Bison Outdoor Classic in April, while he earned second in the Army-Navy star meet in the 5000m.
Luke Griner (Junior / Syracuse, IND)
Griner has continued his strong season in the 800m onto the outdoor track, while helping Army to a first-place finish in the conference meet in the 4x800 relay. He tabbed second at the same meet in the 800m with a time of 1:50.46 while previously achieving a personal-best 1:48.00 at the Larry Ellis Invite at Princeton. Griner picked up a key win for the Black Knights in the Army-Navy star meet in the 800m, and logged a pair of top-three finishes in the event at the Larry Ellis Invite and Virginia Challenge. Griner was named Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week on April 4th.
Kayley Ragazzini (Junior / Hewlett, NY)
Ragazzini has impressed all season across multiple throwing events for the Black Knights, highlighted by the Patriot League title in the hammer throw with a personal-best 59.31m. She earned fourth in the event at the ECAC/IC4A Championships, while logging second-place in the shot put. She came up big in the Army-Navy star meet with a pair of victories, including a career-best 15.37m in the shot put. She also claimed a victory in the discus throw, with a personal-best 46.79m mark. She was the lone female field athlete to earn multiple Patriot League field athlete of the week awards, winning on March 21 and April 4.
Nicole Sacchinelli (Senior / Fair Lawn, NJ)
Sacchinelli has had a strong campaign as a javelin thrower for the Black Knights, highlighted by a personal-best 47.76m mark for a second-place finish at the Army-Navy star meet. She began the season with a victory in the event at the Ben Brown Invite, also achieved a second victory of the season a the Larry Ellis Invite with a 47.68m mark in the javelin throw.
Cam Smith (Junior / Blythewood, S.C.)
Smith has been in good form throughout the season in the hammer throw, highlighted by a Patriot League title with a personal-best 67.56m distance. He also won the event at the Army-Navy star meet with a 64.33m distance and most recently placed first at the ECAC/IC4A Championships with a 64.35m mark in the hammer throw. Smith was named Patriot league Field Athlete of the Week on April 4th.
Brooke Stratman (Junior / Chandler, AZ)
Stratman earned her spot at the regional meet through multiple victories in the javelin throw throughout the season. She was most recently the Patriot League champion in the event, winning with a 50.91m mark. She recorded a personal-best distance of 51.09m in the Army-Navy star meet, collecting a win for Army. She opened the season in first-place as well, with a mark of 49.51m at the Beach Opener hosted by Cal State Fullerton.
Alexah Zaczynski (Sophomore / Southington, CT)
Zaczynski rounds out the javelin throwers for Army to make the regional meet. The sophomore finished in the top-five in every event this outdoor season, while earning a fourth-place finish at the Patriot League Championships with a 42.45m mark. She logged a career-best 46.40m distance at the Penn Challenge in March, securing her lone victory of the season.

Stratman earned her spot at the regional meet through multiple victories in the javelin throw throughout the season. She was most recently the Patriot League champion in the event, winning with a 50.91m mark. She recorded a personal-best distance of 51.09m in the Army-Navy star meet, collecting a win for Army. She opened the season in first-place as well, with a mark of 49.51m at the Beach Opener hosted by Cal State Fullerton.
Alexah Zaczynski (Sophomore / Southington, CT)
Zaczynski rounds out the javelin throwers for Army to make the regional meet. The sophomore finished in the top-five in every event this outdoor season, while earning a fourth-place finish at the Patriot League Championships with a 42.45m mark. She logged a career-best 46.40m distance at the Penn Challenge in March, securing her lone victory of the season.
