Track & Field Wraps Day One at NCAA East Preliminaries

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Army West Point track & field began its four-day stretch at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on Wednesday, hosted by the University of North Florida. Army saw six different athletes compete across four events on the men's side. Athletes at the regional meet compete for a spot in the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, TX from June 7-10.Â
Chris Barrett and Parker Brosious each competed in the javelin throw, with the top-12 advancing to Austin. Barrett led the duo with a mark of 64.51m, achieving a 23rd-place finish. Brosious landed in 35th with a distance of 61.93m. Cam Smith competed in the hammer throw, failing to record an eligibile throw.Â
In the track events, Luke Griner and Mitchell Burr both competed in the first round of the 800m. Griner narrowly missed qualifying for Friday's quarterfinals, with a 26th-place finish behind his 1:49.93 time. Burr placed 48th in the event with a time of 1:59.60. Garrett Gough rounded out the day in the 10000m semifinal, landing in 39th-place overall with a time of 30:51.06. Gough will return on Friday to compete in the 5000m as one of two Black Knights who qualified for a pair of events.Â

Four Black Knights will compete on day two on Thursday, featuring Kayley Ragazzini in both the hammer throw and shot put, while the trio of Brooke Stratman, Alexah Zaczynski and Nicole Sacchinelli will compete in the javelin throw.
