Sprint Football Dominates in 72-0, Season Opener

Army scored seven first half TDs, totaling 362 yards of total offense to lead, 51-0 at halftime.
QB Mikal Willeke got off to a fast start to lead the Army West Point Sprint offense, hitting WR Devon Brown for a 15-yard TD for the first score of the season midway through the first quarter. Willeke and the offense would not stop there as he would later connect with WR Traye Carson for a 13-yard TD and Donovan Mannion for a 45-yard TD in the second quarter. Willeke finished the first half 12-16 passing, for 185 yards and three TD passes.
As Army led 23-0, from Willeke's three TDs and a defensive safety, Army took to the ground game to add four consecutive rushing TDs in the second quarter by four different ballcarriers by RB Ryan Connors, QB Seth Brown, RB Henry Beck and RB Scott Belveal. Connors paced the Army backfield in the first half, totaling 56 yards on three carries, including his 38-yard TD scamper.
Defensively, LB Michael Sullivan led the way with four tackles and a sack in the first half.
With a running clock in place for the second half, Army still tacked on three more TDs. Army's second half touchdown were all scored on the ground by Brown, and two by RB Deandre Brunings.
Brunings finished as Army's leading rusher, totaling 64 yards, on six carries and two TDs. Brown finished with 59 yards on seven carries with two TDs of his own as well. Army finished a perfect 5-5 on third down conversions as well.
This marks Army Sprint Football's first-time scoring 70+ points since winning the 2017 season opener, 70-0 vs. Post.
Army Sprint Football will take to the road next Friday (Sept. 23), traveling to Annapolis, MD to face Navy at 7:00p.m. Last season Army Sprint met Navy twice, once in the regular season and again in the CSFL Championship Game, dropping both contests.
