GAME 1: BOSTON U. 3, Army 0 (8 INNINGS)
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Springman worked seven scoreless frames, allowing just one hit.
- She made her 17th start and recorded her 12th collegiate complete game.
- Lacey Swafford drew her 10th walk of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opening game of the series turned out to be a thrilling pitching duel between two of the Patriot League's top pitchers, Springman and Dubois. The two took turns shutting down the opposing team's lineup and after seven innings, the score was 0-0. Through the first seven frames, the two offensives combined for one hit, while just one base runner was able to reach scoring position.
- However, Boston U. broke the game open in extra innings. It began with a leadoff single in the eighth and after a sacrifice bunt, there were runners on the corners with one out following a fielder's choice. Springman got the second out of the inning after a grounder came right back to her and she tossed the ball over to first.
- The two runners came in to score though on the ensuing at-bat after a two-out single was ripped into center. One additional run was plated by the Terriers before Army was retired in order in the home half of the eighth.
GAME 2: ARMY 3, BOSTON U. 2
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Springman picked up her seventh career win after tossing 2.2 shutout innings in relief.
- Trotter and Snelling both recorded multi-hit games.
- It was the sixth multi-hit outing this season for Trotter and also the sixth for Snelling.
- Trotter tallied her fourth double of the season.
- Maddie Kim's double in the game was her first hit this season.
- Seven different Cadets recorded a hit in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a quick 1-2-3 inning by Macey Newbary, the Black Knights came up to hit in the bottom half of the first and plated a run. It started once Trotter launched a double that bounced to the wall in left center before coming in to score on an Emily Ballesteros ground out to the right side.
- Following another shutdown frame by Newbary, Army tacked on an additional run. With two outs, Snelling shot a single to left and she was brought in to score on a Kim RBI double down the line in left.
- The Army lead remained at two entering the fifth, but Boston U. plated two on back-to-back solo home runs to even the score.
- With the game tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Carrie Reilly belted a one-out single into right. Julia Wyatt was called on to pinch run and after the second out was recorded, Snelling stepped into the box. On a 2-0 count, she ripped a ball into the gap in left center and the Boston U. outfielder bobbled the ball, allowing Wyatt to score what turned out to be the game-winning run with ease.
- The Terriers had one final chance and despite the leadoff runner reaching after getting hit by a pitch, Springman shut things down and closed out the game with a 1-6-3 double play.
UP NEXT
- The pivotal Patriot League series will be decided at the Army West Point Softball Complex tomorrow at noon when these two teams meet for one final time in the regular season.
