ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Army leads the all-time series with Penn, 54-7.
- This was the first time the Black Knights lost to a non-service academy since 2010 when they lost to Cornell, 20-10.
- Army had won its last eight meetings against the Quakers coming into tonight.
- Quay Gilmore ran for a game-high 82 yards on 12 carries (6.9 avg.).
- The Black Knights were in the backfield early and often, producing six sacks and 13 tackles for loss.
- Five of Army's sacks came on third down situations. Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Penn wins the coin toss, Army receives the opening kickoff.
- The Quakers force a three-and-out and takeover from their own 42-yard line before quarterback Mike McCurdy hits Aidan Kelly for a 40-yard touchdown pass.
- Over the next three series, Army and Penn take turns exchanging punts until John Abercrombie booted a 24-yard field goal as time expired in the first quarter.
- Another trio of three-and-outs followed before the Black Knights got down to the six-yard line. The gamble to go for it on fourth-and-goal from there would not pay off, however, as they would turn the ball over on downs.
- Penn responded four plays later with McCurdy connecting on his second big play of the game, this time a 85-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Sutton with 1:18 remaining in the first half.
- Army held its ground on the opening series of the second half and cut the deficit to 14-6 with a 36-yard field goal from Abercrombie at 8:23 in the third quarter. He added his third of the night, this time from 33-yards out, on the next drive at 3:48.
- Army started its final drive from its own 15 yard-line at 0:48 and reached the Penn 28 with six seconds remaining for one final play, when Keegan West took a shot at the end zone.
UP NEXT
- Â The Black Knights return to West Point to face Mansfield on Saturday, Oct. 1. Kickoff against the Mounties is scheduled for 1 p.m.
