Sprint Football’s Late Rally Falls Short in OT Loss to Navy

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point sprint football rallied late but fell short in overtime, dropping a 20-17 decision to rival Navy (8-0) on Saturday at Shea Stadium in the Star Match, which is a part of the Star Series presented by USAA.
For Army (7-1) quarterback Kyle West tied the game with a 2-yard touchdown run with 2:13 left in regulation, capping an eight-play, 69-yard drive. But Navy's Jacori Sutton delivered the game-winner in overtime, drilling a 36-yard field goal after Army's offense stalled.
West finished 13-of-34 passing for 174 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. He added 14 rushing yards and the late score. His top target was Carson McFadden, who caught five passes for 68 yards, while Marek Arbogast hauled in a 37-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter.
Army's ground game struggled outside of West, totaling just 43 net rushing yards on 25 attempts. JP Ross contributed 13 yards on eight carries, and Gabriel Bolivar added nine yards on five attempts.
Defensively, linebacker Jake Oxendine led the Black Knights with 11 tackles, including two for loss and a sack. Mason Beriault and Louis Petkus each added nine stops, while Drew Waldron recorded an interception.
Army (7-2) was outgained 271-225 in total offense and held the ball for just 37:33 compared to Navy's 52:21.
The Black Knights converted 4 of 15 third downs but were perfect on fourth down (2-for-2) and in the red zone (2-for-2).
Navy (9-0) built a 14-0 lead behind quarterback Luke O'Conn's two touchdown passes, but Army clawed back with a field goal from Nicholas Cueto and West's late score before falling in the extra period.
