Sprint Football Embarks for Season Finale at Navy

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point sprint football team will close out the 2016 season in Annapolis, Md., competing against service academy rival Navy for the Gold Star as part of the Star Series presented by USAA on Friday at 7 p.m.
The 77th edition of the rivalry features the Collegiate Sprint Football League's (CSFL) top offense in Navy and the league's top defense with Army. Each side is second in the respective categories.
This is the first time since 2006 that the winner of the Army-Navy game will automatically clinch at least a share of the league championship when Cornell won the title.

ARMY (5-1, 5-1 CSFL)
• The Black Knights are seeking their second-straight victory over Navy and the fourth in five years.
• The last time Army won in Annapolis was in 2012.
• Army topped Navy last season on Oct. 31, 24-23, thanks to a blocked PAT with 3:29 remaining by Matthew Tamburri and a fourth-down sack by Curtis Jerzerick with 1:01 left in the game.
•The Cadets' defensive unit has been at the top of the league all season led by Jerzerick, who is fourth in the CSFL in tackles with 44, Angelo Matz, who leads the league in sacks with seven and is second in tackles for loss with 10.5, and Taylor Ragland who is tied for the league-lead in pass break ups with 10.
• Offensively, sophomore Keegan West has taken charge under center, ranking at the top of the CSFL in multiple categories. Currently, West has thrown four touchdown passes in each of the past three games.
• Ty Galyean and Austin Breed have been the favorite targets for West and Brady Miller, with each recording 19 receptions on the season. Galyean leads the team with 333 yards and seven touchdowns, while Breed ranks second on the Black Knights with 290 receiving yards and four scores.
• On the ground, senior captain Marqus Burrell leads the Black Knights for the fourth-straight season with 245 yards on 73 carries (3.4 avg.).
NAVY (5-1, 5-1 CSFL)
• The Midshipmen hold a 41-34-1 advantage in the series and are 18-11 at home against the Cadets.
• Senior quarterback Nick Neterding is the team's offensive captain and has led Navy's offense by accounting for 11 touchdowns.
• The Navy rushing attack is led by Brendon Clements, who has amassed 683 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground this season.
• The Mids' defense is led by Bryant Schlade, whose 37 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss of 40 yards and 5.0 sacks for a loss of 35 yards are all team bests.
