ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- The Black Knights fall to 34-42-1 all-time against Navy.
- Tonight was Army's lowest point total since being shut out by the Midshipmen in 2008.
- Army was outgained 327-122 in total offense.
- Tonight's loss marked the first time since 2011 that the Cadets have lost multiple games in a season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after sophomore kicker John Abercrombie connected on a 32-yard field goal with 8:06 remaining in the first quarter.
- The Navy defense corralled the Army offense, forcing the Black Knights into a three-and-out situation or a turnover on downs on eight of their 12 offensive possessions.
- Christian Hess intercepted Nick Deterding at the tail end of a 14 play, 52 yard drive at the Army five-yard line, bringing the ball back 78 yards to the Navy 18. The Black Knights would not be able to capitalize, however, as they would be stopped on fourth-and-three at the Navy 10.
- The Mids had a chance to tie the game at 10:32 in the second quarter, but a missed 37-yard field goal would preserve the Army lead.
- Deterding would be intercepted late in the second quarter as well, this time by Nathan Lopez inside the Mids' territory.
- Navy scored on its first two possessions of the second half to give itself a 10-3 advantage. A 66 yard drive was capped by a one-yard touchdown run by Brendon Clements, which was set up by a 20-yard scamper by Clements, gave Navy a 7-3 advantage before a 20-yard field goal would close the scoring.
- After the Midshipmen scoring drives, Army only allowed Navy to get one yard past midfield the rest of the game.
