Army West Point Athletics

From the Desk of AD #31
March 12, 2026 | General
Hello Army West Point Community,
Welcome back to another edition of From the Desk of the AD - a platform from my perspective to keep you informed, engaged, and connected with everything happening in Army West Point Athletics and the Army West Point Athletic Association. Through this message, I'll be sharing important department updates, celebrating the accomplishments of our outstanding cadet-athletes, and offering insights into the dynamic world of college athletics. All of this is grounded in the four pillars of our Fruits of Victory strategic plan: Competitive Success, Delivering an Extraordinary Division I Experience, Public Engagement and Revenue Generation, and Sustainability.
Â
As I write this note, I'm in Birmingham, Alabama attending the American Conference meetings, where athletics directors from across the league have gathered for a of discussion about the league. As you might imagine, much of the conversation centers on college football - everything from the evolving playoff structure to bowl game allocations and how our programs continue to compete and grow in a rapidly changing landscape. These meetings are always valuable, not only for the exchange of ideas but for the collaboration that helps shape the direction of our conference. We are fortunate to have strong leadership in Commissioner Tim Pernetti, who continues to advocate for the American and for institutions like ours at the highest levels. His recent time at the White House representing our league and its member institutions is a great example of the voice and credibility he brings to the table.
Â
BLACK KNIGHTS IN POSTSEASON PLAY
As our winter sports enter postseason play, we have seen incredible performances from our Black Knights. Women's basketball earned a thrilling Patriot League quarterfinal win over Lafayette at home on Monday night to secure their spot in a league semifinal matchup at Holy Cross tonight at 6 p.m. ET. The team's success speaks to the impact that Head Coach Katie Kuester has had on our program and the culture she is building with the team. Additionally, Head Gymnastics Coach JD Reive and the gymnastics team earned the ECAC Regular Season Champion title on Saturday. Two of our winter sports saw members of their teams qualify for the national championships in their sports last month as wrestling saw three Black Knights punch their tickets to the national meet while swimming & diving secured sports for three women and five men at the 2026 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships at the Patriot League Championships. The success of these teams on the national stage exemplifies the excellence all of our programs strive for in their respective arenas.
Â
RECOGNITION FOR SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM
While competing in postseason play, our Black Knights continue to uphold the West Point standards in the classroom as indoor track & field, swimming & diving, and women's basketball placed multiple athletes on their respective Patriot League All-Academic Teams. Indoor track & field placed nine on the Academic All-League team, swimming & diving secured spots for six cadet-athletes including the Patriot League Women's Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year title for Molly Webber, and women's basketball earned spots for two Black Knights on the Academic All-League Team announced Monday.

FOUNDERS DAY UPDATES
I am excited for the opportunity to be the keynote speaker for several Founders Day events this year! After speaking to the first two locations last week in Colorado, I am eager to visit the updated list of the dates and locations confirmed for future dates below. I look forward to engaging with many more of you and providing updates from across all disciplines of the Academy (mostly Athletics ??) and to continue to wave the Army flag in enemy territory.

Â
LEADERS ON POST – THANK YOU MR. RODRIGUEZ
The world's preeminent leader development institution always values opportunities to connect leadership lessons from the field, business, and sport with the next generation of Army leaders. It was a great day of learning from Mr. Rodriguez and the Minnesota Timberwolves CEO and Class of 2002's Matthew Caldwell – including talking with ARod about Lou Piniella and his management style!
Â
CSM POWERS FIRST PITCH!
It was an incredible honor to have CSM Anthony Powers out to Doubleday Field to throw out the first pitch at our 2026 baseball home opener. As an officer of the highest senior enlisted rank in the Army, it was an honor for our cadet-athletes and our department to have the presence and support of CSM Powers in the crowd and on the mound.
