January 17, 2026 | Hockey
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point hockey (9-11-5, 4-10-3 Atlantic Hockey America) fell 3-0 in the second game of its series against Robert Morris (5-15-2, 5-9-1 Atlantic Hockey America) at Tate Rink.
The Black Knights held the Colonials scoreless through the first period but a penalty-heavy second period for both teams saw the visitors from Pittsburg take two goal lead that expanded to three with an empty net goal late in the third period.
JJ Cataldo made his 22nd appearance in goal this season for Army, tallying 42 saves against RMU's 45 shots on goal.
The Colonials sent Lucas Massie between the pipes on Saturday where he logged 22 saves against Army's 22 shots on goal.
Motivated after Friday night's overtime win, the Black Knights took off running in the first period of action at Tate Rink, improving from Friday's 12-5 shot differential to a 13-13 shots-on-goal mark for the two teams.
Despite the elevated offensive pressure from both teams, Cataldo and Massie both held firm in goal to hold the game scoreless going into the first intermission.
Robert Morris stepped up the pace to the tune of an 18-4 shot differential that saw the visiting team score back-to-back goals 23 seconds apart after a bevy of penalties were dished out to both teams early in the second frame.
The Colonials harried the Black Knights' defense as the period wore on, but Army locked down and held the score at 2-0 going into the final period of regulation.
Energized by the productive period, Robert Morris controlled possession of the puck as the third period began, logging seven shots on goal in the first eight minutes of action before Army put a puck on frame.
After a second flurry of penalties in the middle of the period, Army pulled Cataldo to gain the man-advantage in the final minutes of regulation but a loose puck knocked out of the RMU zone made its way down the ice where a Colonial forward tapped the puck across the line to give the visitors a 3-0 lead with a minute and 46 seconds left in the game.
Last second efforts to score from both teams fell short and RMU carried their 3-0 lead through the final whistle.
The results marks Army's third split series in league play this season.
