Softball Falls to Northern Kentucky to close out UNF Tournament
March 14, 2023 | Softball
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Army West Point softball (6-17) fell by a score of 2-0 to Northern Kentucky (5-15) to close out the UNF Tournament on Sunday morning.
Amanda Eaglin tossed a complete game for the Black Knights, allowing just one earned while striking out four.
The game was a true pitchers dual through four innings, as neither team was able to push across a run early. Army logged all three of its hits off Alicia Flores in those first four frames, with Maddie Wilkes, Lauren Little and Ashton White each hitting singles which eventually saw them left on base.Â
Northern Kentucky was finally able to break through in the top of the fifth inning, with a one-out RBI single bringing home the games first run after a leadoff double. The Norse would add a second unearned run with a two-out single from Kaylee McGinn.
Flores settled in as the game moved on for Northern Kentucky, never allowing more than one baserunner in an inning and retiring the final 12 Army batters of the game to secure the complete game shutout. Eaglin allowed just five hits and suffered a tough-luck loss after a solid outing.
Army will return next weekend for the Spartan Classic hosted by UNC Greensboro, with a pair of matchups against the Spartans and Gardner-Webb spanning from Mar. 17-19.
