The Black Knights stretched their winning streak to 11 games while earning their first CSFL North division win of the season.
Keegan West continued his strong senior campaign by leading Army to a 35-point lead at halftime and finished the game 22-for-26 for 255 passing yards and five touchdowns. His favorite target was once again junior Tom Williamson, who led the Black Knights' receiving corps with six catches, 70 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensively, Alex Sobeski led the team with seven stops on the afternoon. NeVonte Dean boasted a team-high 2.5 tackles for a loss of nine yards, including two sacks for eight yards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
- West got Army off to a quick start with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Williamson 1:58 into the game.
- He later connected with Mike Shannon to take a two-score lead within the first five minutes of the contest.
- Jake Gigliotti scampered in from one yard out to cap the team's scoring in the opening period.
- The Black Knights went back to their aerial attack with two more scores from Carter and Williamson to send the home side to a 35-point advantage at the half.
- West came out for the first drive of the second half, leading the Black Knights on an eight play, 63 yard journey that ended with Williamson's third touchdown of the afternoon.
- Backup quarterback Ryan Sullivan completed his first-career touchdown pass to Caleb Johnson, who hung on for the six-yard score for his first collegiate touchdown.
- Rookie Hans Fotta pounded the ball in from three-yards out for the first touchdown of his career to put Army ahead, 56-0.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- This was the first meeting between Army and Saint Thomas Aquinas.
- The Spartans were defeated and shutout for the first time in their program's history.
- West became the first Army quarterback to throw five touchdowns in a single game since J.J. Wartski did so against Cornell on Oct. 3, 2014.
- The West Point, N.Y., native eclipsed 3,000 passing yards for his career.
- He threw for 250 yards for the second time in his career and had more than 200 passing yards for the third straight game.
- Williamson also became the first Cadet with three receiving touchdowns since Tucker Van Dyke did so against Cornell in 2014.
UP NEXT
- The Black Knights will have a week off before facing Pennsylvania on Oct. 12 at Shea Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
