Black Knights Geared for Patriot League Tournament

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The fourth-seeded Army West Point softball team will open the Patriot League Tournament on Thursday at noon against top-seeded Boston U. at the Boston University Softball Field.

ARMY VERSUS THE FIELD
- Army and Boston U. have squared off four times in the Patriot League Tournament and the Terriers have taken all four meetings.
- The Black Knights and Bison have met 14 times in the postseason and Army holds a 9-5 series edge.
- The Cadets and Mountain Hawks are familiar postseason foes, having faced off 36 times since the 1991 season. Lehigh has claimed 23 of the contests.

#4 ARMY (23-26, 7-8 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
- The Black Knights closed out their 2018 campaign with four consecutive wins, outscoring the opposition, 34-13.
- Six Cadets earned All-Patriot League Team honors on Tuesday afternoon, marking the most in a single season since 2012.
- Kristen McPeek, Carrie Reilly and Lacey Swafford have all been tearing it up at the plate as of late.
- Over the past seven games, McPeek and Reilly have combined for 25 hits, 14 runs, 15 RBIs, seven doubles and three stolen bases.
- Swafford, who is on a five-game hitting streak, has compiled a .444 average with eight hits, six runs scored, two RBIs and a pair of doubles.
- Courtney Springman capped her rookie campaign as the Patriot League leader in ERA (1.77) and opponent's batting average (.206).
#1 BOSTON U. (36-18, 15-3 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
- The Terriers had a strong finish to their 2018 season, winning 18 of their last 19 contests.
- Boston U. swept the Patriot League postseason major awards and had seven players receive all-league recognition.
- Freshman Ali Dubois was named the Patriot League Pitcher and Rookie of the Year after tying Springman for first in ERA (1.77) and opponent's batting average (.206).
- She also went 25-7 on the season with a league-best 175 strikeouts in 205.2 innings of work.
- Alex Heinen, who was tabbed the Patriot League Player of the Year, leads the squad with 69 hits and a .373 average.
- Heinen, along with four other Terriers who have played and started in all 54 games, are all batting over .300 for the season.
#2 BUCKNELL (26-21-1, 13-5 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
- The Bison won eight of their last 10 outings to cap their 2018 season, but have not played a game since April 29.
- Three Bison were named to the All-Patriot League team, including first team selection Meghan Kovac, who was one of the most dominant power hitters in the league this season.
- Kovac led the league with 13 homers, 42 RBI and 14 doubles, while also crossing home 30 times.
- Lauren Hadley was also a first team performer and her .368 average at the plate leads the squad.
- She tallied a team-best 57 hits with 10 doubles, 30 runs scored, 33 RBI and eight home runs.
- Raeanne Geffert was a first team all-league pitcher, posting a 1.94 ERA in 35 appearances and compiling a 17-10 record.
#3 LEHIGH (22-24-1, 11-7 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
- Before dropping the regular season finale to Holy Cross last Sunday, the Mountain Hawks won five straight games.
- Lehigh had three all-league performers, including first team all-league player Nicole Yozzo, who was one of the top base stealers in the country.
- The senior led the team with a .333 batting average and 46 hits at the leadoff spot, while going 44-47 on stolen base attempts.
- Mary-Hannah Smith has been the team's best run producer, driving in a team-best 29 runs.
- In the circle, Parker Boyd had the most success, accumulating a 2.59 ERA in 181 innings.
- She fanned 167 batters and held the opposition to a .233 average.
