Early Deficit Too Much for Army to Overcome Friday

BUFFALO, N.Y. – An early 2-0 lead by Canisius was too much for Army to overcome on Friday night. The Black Knights fell to the Golden Griffins 4-1 at the Harbor Center.  Â

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- The Black Knights retain its sixth place standing with tonight's loss.
- Conor Andrle netted Army's lone goal of the night. It was assisted by Nick DeCenzo.
- It was Andrle's fourth goal of the year and gives the senior 92 points in his career.
- The goal marked Andrle's third against Canisius and 11th point.
- DeCenzo's tallied his fourth assist on the season as well and 36th point.
- It was the senior's fifth point opposite the Griffs.
- Cole Bruns had a strong performance in net with 26 saves.
- The senior netminder has recorded at least 26 saves in 14 games this season.
- Army is now 0-5-1 when scoring one goal in a game, while it is it is 0-6-0 when the Black Knights' opponent scores four goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
PERIOD ONE (CANISIUS 2 – ARMY 0)
- Trevor Fidler had an open lane early in the game. He streaked up the left side, while Canisius was in a change but his shot sailed wide.
- Blake Box kept the Griffs at bay around the 12 minute mark with a puck recovery behind the net and helped maintain the 0-0 tie.
- The Black Knights went on the first power play of the game 10:24 in and then again three minutes later.
- Canisius' special teams took advantage by breaking up an Army power play attempt and scoring on a 2-on-1 with 7:16 remaining in the period.
- The Griffs followed up with a power play goal just over three minutes later to push their lead to 2-0.
PERIOD TWO (CANISIUS 2 – ARMY 1)
- The Black Knights came out strong to start the second frame. Brendan Soucie had a point-blank shot on the doorstep, but Daniel Urbani made the glove save.
- Canisius went on a power play 2:08 into the period, but the score remained 2-0 in part of a big block made by Taylor Maruya's shoulder.
- Tucker DeYoung set up a decent attempt for the Black Knights passing the puck in to Fidler who attempted the backhand, but it was saved.
- Army kept fighting until the end when DeCenzo snagged a loose puck off the boards and got it back to Andrle who shot low right from the middle of the offensive zone.
- This cut Canisius' lead to 2-1.
PERIOD THREE (CANISIUS 4 – ARMY 1)
- Army was charged with a penalty 30 seconds into the stanza and held off the Griffs mostly due to saves by Bruns.
- The Black Knights brought their penalty unit back on the ice three other times in the period.
- Canisius scored with three seconds left on the power play 15 minutes into the frame to pad its lead to 3-1.
- A few minutes later, Michael Wilson fired a shot from the left circle, but Urbani's glove was there again to stop the puck from crossing the goal line.
- Canisius was called for a hold with 1:47 remaining. The Black Knights pulled Bruns for the remainder of the game.
- The Griffs scored on the empty net with 32 seconds to go.
