Five Unanswered Goals Sends Army Past Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. - The Army West Point hockey team scored five unanswered goals to cruise to a 5-1 win at Mercyhurst in Atlantic Hockey action on Friday night.
Army got goals from five different players, while Dalton MacAfee and Mason Krueger led the team with two points on a goal and an assist apiece. Tipper Higgins was a contributor to the win with a pair of assists. Trevin Kozlowski was on his game with a career-high 27 saves between the pipes.
Mercyhurst outshot the Black Knights 29-27, but only Ethan Johnson found a way to put the puck past Kozlowski for the Lakers' lone goal. Stefano Cantali made 22 saves in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lakers got on the board first with Johnson scoring on a breakaway to give Mercyhurst a 1-0 lead after the Black Knights had killed off a penalty early in the first period.
- The Black Knights evened the score a few minutes later with Krueger netting his second of the year with a shot from the right circle after being setup by MacAfee and Higgins.
- Army took the 2-1 lead with 13:38 on the clock in the second period with Matt Berkovitz scoring his second of the season with a blast from the right point with assists to Krueger and Trevor Fidler.
- MacAfee extended the lead to 3-1 with another slap shot from the point coming off a faceoff win by Higgins, coming 1:22 after Berkovitz's goal.
- The Black Knights added to the lead with Zach Evancho adding his third of the year with a wrist shot from the left circle to beat Cantali to make it a 4-1 game. Alex Wilkinson recorded the assist for his sixth of the season.
- Tyler DeYoung put the game away with an empty net goal in the final minute to close out the scoring and give Army a 5-1 victory.

- The Black Knights have outscored opponents 10-3 in their last two games.
- Army won at Mercyhurst for the second time in the series history and the first time since a 3-2 win in 2006.
- The four-goal margin of victory was the second largest for Army in the series.

- Wilkinson extended his career-long point streak to six games with an assist.
