Men's Soccer Edges Lafayette in League Tilt
October 04, 2017 | Men's Soccer
EASTON, Pa. – An early second-half score proved to be enough as the Army West Point men's soccer team defeated Lafayette, 1-0, in a Patriot League road game on Wednesday night at Oaks Stadium.
Army improved to 8-3 overall with the win and 2-1 in league play, while the Leopards fell to 1-9 on the season and 1-2 in conference action.
The Lafayette defense tempered the Army attack early With a five-man backline, limiting the Black Knights to three shots in the first half. However, the Cadets broke through in the second stanza and held on to grab the win.
"We had trouble finding space in different moments in first half," head coach Russell Payne said. "I was very pleased with the way we started the second half though. We were aggressive and good things happen when you play like that. I am very proud of our defense and Justin (McGraw) did a great job again to keep things tight in the back. Now we shift our attention to a very good Loyola team and it should be a good match on Saturday."
