Golf Hosts Navy in Star Series Matchup
September 30, 2016 | Men's Golf
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point golf team is back in action this weekend as it hosts Navy as part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA.
The Black Knights defeated Navy a year ago, 6.5-4.5, in Annapolis, Md., for their fourth consecutive victory over the Midshipmen.
"The team is looking forward to another Army/Navy Star Match," said head coach Brian Watts. "It is unlike any other format they get to play in collegiate golf. The Ryder Cup format is fun for the teams and exciting for the spectators to watch. Our men have been working hard on their games and we feel well prepared for the weekend."
Saturday, the golfers will compete in Four-Ball matches and seven singles matches on Sunday.

The Black Knights are coming off of a 15th place finish at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational, hosted by Illinois two weeks ago. Peter Kim led the way with rounds of 76-70-75—221 (+11).
Army also has a third place finish at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial, where Gunnar Doyle carded a 54-hole score of 74-74-74—222 (+6) to lead the Black Knights.
COACHES CORNER
"This event is more about being mentally prepared than anything else. With the game of golf, you need to be relaxed, focused and mentally tough to compete at your best, so we continue to work on these fundamentals every day. We have an extremely close group of young men who believe in the program and love one another. When you put those two things together, good things will happen regardless if it's on the golf course or out in the real world. Our cadets understand the mission and Coach Bagley and I expect the team to perform at their best."
