The 54-hole competition will begin with the first 36 on Saturday and conclude with the final 18 on Sunday. Each participating team is limited to six golfers with the top four scorers each round counting towards the team total. The final team score is determined by totaling all completed rounds. Individual scoring consists of the lowest aggregate score of all completed rounds.
The individual champion will be named the Patriot League Men's Golfer of the Year, while the highest finishing freshman receives the sport's Rookie of the Year honor. Head coaches from all eight schools will vote on the Patriot League Coach of the Year award.
The team champion receives the Patriot League's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals, and the individual champion would also receive an automatic bid to the regionals (if that person is not a member of the team champion).
The Black Knights finished as the runner-ups in the 2015 championship and won the title back in 2011. The 2016 Army squad will be comprised of Marcus Plunkett, Dean Sakata, Peter Kim, Matt Plunkett, Justin Pagila and Eric Peng who are hoping to bring the hardware back to West Point. Kim was the individual champion his rookie year in 2014.
Army is no stranger to the Naval Academy Golf Club as they play at the course every other year for Army-Navy Star Events. The Black Knights have won its last two events there, including the head-to-head contest this past fall.
"The Naval Academy course is very similar to the West Point Golf Course," said head coach Brian Watts. "The greens are quite severe, there are a lot of undulations and it puts a premium on putting the ball on the fairway. The course is always in great condition down there and we are just fired up to play."
The 18-hole Naval Academy course features 6,611 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71. The course rating is 71.7 and it has a slope rating of 128.
