Major Mike Ziegelhofer, a native of Lexington, Ohio, enters his third season with the Army men's rugby program.
He attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY, graduating with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and life sciences and receiving his commission as an armor officer in 2004. MAJ Ziegelhofer attended Columbia University in 2013, earning a master's degree Organizational Psychology. He is a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic Course and Maneuver Captain's Career Course.
Major Ziegelhofer has served as a platoon leader, Aide-de-Camp, and Troop Commander in both garrison and combat operations. As a platoon leader with the 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Fort Irwin, CA, he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III. He then served as the Aide-de-Camp to the commanding general of the National Training Center at Fort Irwin and to the commanding general of the Combined Services Training Command in Kabul, Afghanistan. In his most previous duty assignment, Major Ziegelhofer commanded Lightning Troop, 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and the Regimental Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, deploying to Operation New Dawn in Iraq from 2010-2011. Major Ziegelhofer currently serves as the Tactical Officer of company F-3 at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.
Major Ziegelhofer's military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with three Campaign Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and NATO Medal. He has also earned the Combat Action Badge and the Air Assault Badge.
