Men’s Rugby Advances to CRAA D1A Quarterfinals with Playoff Win Over Arkansas State

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point men's rugby wasted little time on Friday night at Anderson Rugby Complex, defeating the Arkansas State Red Wolves 42-17 in the CRAA D1A Round of 16 to advance to the playoff quarterfinals for the second straight year.

The Black Knights will face the winner of Saturday's Navy vs. Mary Washington match next week, on April 18. A potential Army-Navy rematch would be held at Annapolis' Prusmack Rugby Complex.

"We are thrilled to extend our season another week into the postseason. This group has been a true privilege to work with all year. I thought this was a really strong step forward in our climb, and what we got right was staying present and focused on execution and process, even when there were a few blemishes. What's most exciting is we know there's another 5–10% better in us with greater accuracy, and we're looking forward to getting back to work ahead of the quarterfinal," said head coach Matt Sherman.

Army never trailed in Friday's contest, featuring six conversions from Richard Corbett III and a pair of tries from Porter Kuebler. After Andrew Bardak scored inside six minutes, Arkansas State drew within four points on a penalty in the 23', but never got closer, with Kuebler and Matt Leslie tries before halftime giving Army a 21-3 lead at the break.

Chance Loudenback found the try zone just six minutes into the second half before Kuebler's second try of the evening made it 35-3.

The Red Wolves recorded a pair of late scores after Jack Reed made it 42-3 with 20 minutes to play, but Army had plenty of margin down to stretch to secure a robust playoff win.
