Men’s Rugby Travels to Annapolis for CRAA Quarterfinals
April 17, 2026 | Men's Rugby
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – America's rivalry will feature an encore on Saturday in Annapolis, with Army West Point men's rugby facing archrival Navy in the CRAA D1A playoff quarterfinals on Saturday.
Kickoff from Prusmack Rugby Complex is slated for 11:00 a.m. and will be streamed on YouTube.
"We've earned another week together, and this group is climbing fast. Saturday is a new opportunity that we are prepared for to reach a new best. The team is excited to take another step forward and see how good we can be," said head coach Matt Sherman.
For Army, the match is twofold. The Black Knights seek a spot in next weekend's national semifinals and ultimately a return trip to the national championship in Indianapolis, which would be the program's first since winning the national title in 2022.
The squad also seeks a win over Navy after a narrow loss on November 15 to end the fall season. In that fixture at Anderson Rugby Complex, Howie Heller provided 11 points, but a pair of late Midshipmen tries sealed the 21-16 result.
Army finished the 2025-26 regular season 9-3 and 4-2 in Rugby East matches, while the Mids went 8-1 and 5-0 in the league. Navy's sole loss to date this season was a 52-45 defeat at Cal.
The Black Knights enter the match with momentum following their 42-17 first round win at home over Arkansas State, having led by as much as 42-3 in the second half. Porter Kuebler scored a pair of tries and was named D1A Men's Player of the Week, while Richard Corbett III went 6-for-6 on conversions.
Next Up
The winner of Friday's match will take on the winner of the Life vs. Lindenwood quarterfinal for an April 25 semifinal. Should Army advance to that semifinal match, it would be played on the road.
