Major Brent Pafford enters his third year as an assistant coach with the Army West Point men’s rugby program.
Major Pafford serves as an assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering and an assistant Rugby Coach at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Brent played Rugby for four years at the United States Military Academy from 2000-2004. He has served in the Army for over 10 years since graduating from West Point in 2004, with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. MAJ Pafford also holds a Master’s of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the Cockrell School of Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.
Commissioned as an Aviation Officer, his former assignments include Air Cavalry Platoon Leader and Distribution Platoon Leader with 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Fort Carson, Colorado. While at Fort Carson, he deployed as an assistant operations officer with 1st Squadron, 6th Cavalry regiment to Kirkuk, Iraq in support of the Presidential Surge during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
He moved to Kansas in 2009, where he commanded Avenger Troop, 1st Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment in the 1st Infantry Division. In the winter of 2010, Pafford deployed with Avenger Troop to Taji, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn.
Major Pafford’s military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with three Campaign Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon. He has also earned the Combat Action Badge, Senior Aviator Badge and the Parachutists Badge.
