Conor McGuinness was added to the Army West Point men’s basketball coaching staff as the Director of Basketball Operations for the 2019-20 season.
In his first year with the team, McGuinness helped the Black Knights achieve several milestones as Army compiled 10 Patriot League victories to tie the program record for single season league wins. It marked just the second time in program history that an Army squad collected double-digit league wins and the first since the 2013-14 campaign. He also helped the Cadets go on a program-long six-game winning streak in league play.
McGuinness also had a hand in Army’s first regular season sweep of Navy since the 2011-12 campaign. The Black Knights captured the Star in the annual Star Series Game on Feb. 22, 2020, after defeating the Mids, 86-75, in overtime at Christl Arena. The 86 points were the third most in a game versus Navy in 133 all-time meetings.
He additionally aided the Black Knights in a notable, 89-76, road win against the two-time defending MAC regular season and tournament champs, Buffalo, on Dec. 14.
McGuinness arrived on the banks of the Hudson following a standout four-year playing career as a point guard at Adelphi. The New City, N.Y., native ended his career as the program’s all-time leader in career assists with 721. In each of his final three seasons with the Panthers, McGuinness ranked inside the top-five nationally in Division II in assists per game and inside the top-eight in total assists.
During the 2018-19 campaign, he added to his career achievements by becoming the 37th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. His final season was punctuated by being named MBWA All-Met First Team and Third Team All-NE10.
