Marcus Edwards joined the Army West Point football team as an assistant in the spring of 2018 and coaches the wide receivers.
Edwards comes to West Point following three seasons as the wide receivers coach at Stony Brook. In 2017, the Seawolves finished 10-3, including 7-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play, and were named the ECAC Football Championship Subdivision Team of the Year. Stony Brook also finished 11th in the FCS national poll and made it to the second round of the FCS playoffs with a win over Lehigh before bowing out to top-ranked James Madison in the next round.
Edwards guided receiver Ray Bolden to First Team All-CAA honors in 2017. Bolden was a two-time first teamer in his career and a second team honoree in 2016. He pulled down 66 receptions for 780 yards and nine touchdowns this season to lead the Seawolves’ receiving corps.Â
Prior to Stony Brook, Edwards had his second stint as an assistant coach at Wagner in 2014. Edwards also coached for the Seahawks from 2009 to 2011 and in between he served two seasons on the staff at Bowling Green.
Bowling Green enjoyed tremendous success during Edwards’ two seasons there as the Falcons made an appearance in the 2012 Military Bowl, played at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, D.C., followed by an appearance in the 2013 Little Caesers Bowl. Held at Ford Field in Pontiac, Mich., which is the home field of the NFL’s Detroit Lions, this 2013 Caesers Bowl was a reward for winning the 2013 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship.
In Edwards’ two seasons at Bowling Green, the Falcons were a combined 18-8 (.692), having gone 8-5 in 2012 followed by a 10-3 campaign in 2013.
A 2007 graduate of South Florida, Edwards collected 73 receptions for 928 yards and three touchdowns during his four-year career. He was a two-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star team member and was a team captain for the Bulls. He then received his master’s degree from Wagner in 2011.
