Softball Uses Three Home Runs to Power Past Boston U in Game One
April 17, 2026 | Softball
WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point softball (25-20, 7-3) saw its win streak extended to nine games as the Black Knights scored a comeback victory over the Boston University Terriers (34-13, 11-2), 6-4.
With the win, the Black Knights take a 1-0 lead in the regular season series, with the two teams splitting their last six matchups at 3-3.
Army used power at the plate and a strong relief outing from Breanna Izzo to rally past Boston U in a game defined by timely extra-base hits and shutdown pitching late.
Hannah Laub served as a key player for the Black Knights, earning two solo home runs to boast a team-high two hits while adding three runs and three RBIs. She also reached in the sixth with a walk.
Ashton White finished with one hit, a home run in the first inning, to bring up her season total to eight home runs and career total to 26. That number ties White with Kasey McCravey for the program record for most career home runs in Army Softball history.
Tayten Moore also added the go-ahead hit, a two-RBI double, in the sixth inning, and also added a stolen base and a run off a Boston U error. Sienna Tepley, Makaila Moosbrugger and Emma Murchison also added hits for the Black Knights.
On the pitching side, Katelyn Flanders received the start while Breanna Izzo entered in relief. Izzo went on to receive the win, pitching 4.1 innings in relief with three strikeouts while only allowing one hit and two walks.
How It Happened
Army struck first in the opening inning thanks to Ashton White, who launched a solo home run to right center to give the Black Knights a 1-0 lead.
The offense stayed aggressive in the second, as Hannah Laub added another solo shot, this one down the left field line, to extend the advantage to 2-0.
Laub was not done, as she later delivered again in the fourth with her second home run of the game, a blast to right center that cut into Boston U's lead and made it 4-3.
Boston U briefly seized momentum in the third, scoring four runs, three unearned, to take a 4-2 lead. With the inning spiraling, Army turned to Izzo out of the bullpen, and she immediately stabilized the game, recording the final out and preventing further damage.
From that point on, Izzo took control in the circle. She shut down Boston U over the final four innings, allowing minimal traffic and keeping the Terriers off the scoreboard.
The decisive moment came in the sixth inning. After Laub reached and a pinch-hit single from Makaila Moosbrugger put two on, Tayten Moore delivered another big swing for the Black Knights, a two-RBI double to left center that gave Army a 5-4 lead.
Moments later, aggressive baserunning and a throwing error allowed Moore to come around and score, pushing the lead to 6-4.
In the seventh, Izzo closed the door, working around a pair of baserunners and recording the final out, her third strikeout of the game, to secure the win.
