WORCESTER, Mass. – The no. 5 Army West Point men's lacrosse (6-0, 2-0 Patriot League) team extended its impressive start to the 2025 season with a Patriot League road win on Saturday.
The Black Knights continued their flawless start to the season with a 17-4 win at Holy Cross. With the win, Army extends its record to 6-0 to begin the season, their second 6-0 start since 1984.
Senior Jackson Eicher and freshman Brayden Fountain set a fast pace for Army's offense in Worcester, recording four goals each in the first half. Eicher's four-goal showing marked his third game with three or more goals this season while Fountain's four-goal day marked his sixth straight game with a hat trick or more in his collegiate career.
Senior midfielder Evan Plunkett followed closely with three goals for his second consecutive hat trick this season. The trio led the Black Knights in points as well with nine from Eicher, seven from Point, and four from Plunkett.
Robert Simone served as Army's primary faceoff man, taking 15 faceoffs and winning ten of them for a .667 faceoff win percentage.
The Black Knights flexed the depth of their goalkeeper position as four of their ranks saw time on the field. Sean Byrne clocked 39 minutes in goal followed by Evan Richardson with 15 minutes, each logging five saves and allowing two goals while Bennett Ong notched five saves in his five minutes in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Decked out in their all-black uniforms, the Black Knights took to the field in search of their sixth consecutive win in the 2025 season Saturday morning in Worcester, Mass. Holy Cross broke open the scoring as the Crusaders' John Mitchell recorded the first goal of the game with just over two minutes expired from the clock.
Brayden Fountain responded to bring the Black Knights tied on a setup from Evan Plunkett. Fountain then paid it forward as he set up Jackson Eicher to take Army into the lead at 2-1 where they would remain for the rest of the contest.
Evan Plunkett notched a goal of his own from a feed by Aiden Weisenborn before the Crusaders claimed their second goal of the game to bring the game to a 3-2 tally in Army's favor heading into the first break.
Eicher logged his second goal of the game three minutes into the second quarter with the assist from Tyler Clark, setting up Fountain for his second goal just 40 seconds later with the duo repeating their success just over a minute later to push Army to a 6-2 lead. Eicher and Fountain would take turns scoring as the quarter progresses until Aiden Weisenborn broke onto the scorecard with a goal of his own.
Weisenborn made good on a man-up opportunity with two minutes left in the quarter after a two-minute penalty to the Crusaders for a big hit on junior goaltender Sean Byrne behind Army's net. Finn McCullough and Evan Plunkett both added man-up goals to Army's tally before the penalty expired to bring Army to a 12-2 lead at halftime.
Robert Simone set the tone for a fast third quarter for Army, winning the opening faceoff, picking up the ground ball, and scoring Army's 13th goal of the game in just seven seconds. Evan Plunkett answered Simone's challenge a minute later as he scored his third goal of the game to become the third Army player in the game to score at least a hat trick.
Finn McCullough completed a brace of his own just under five minutes into the third quarter as Clark earned his second assist of the day. Gunnar Fellows got in on the action on a quick give-and-go from Jackson Eicher, after which the Black Knights brought on Evan Richardson to relieve Byrne.
Dylan D'Agostino notched Army's 17th goal of the day with three and a half minutes left on the clock as he barreled through the Crusaders' defense for his second goal of the season – a career-high in goals for the senior midfielder.
The Crusaders found the back of the net twice in the fourth quarter, bringing the goal difference to 13 before Army put Bennett Ong in net with five and a half minutes remaining in the contest. Ong made five saves for the Black Knights and allowed no goals as Brady White held down the remaining moments of the game to secure Army's 17-4 win.
