Softball Splits Sunday Doubleheader, Tops Wagner, 3-0

BALTIMORE, MD - The Army West Point softball team (3-18) traveled to Baltimore, Maryland to participate in the Morgan State Tournament. Following the rainout of their two Saturday games, the Black Knights were edged out by Morgan State (9-8), 3-2, on Sunday but bounced back with a victory against Wagner (2-8).
Game 1 vs. Morgan State:
Army came out strong in the first inning as Ashton White and Caitlyn Newburn delivered back-to-back RBI hits, propelling the Black Knights to a 2-0 lead.
Army's starting pitcher, Olivia Farris, began the game on a high note, holding the Bears scoreless through three innings.
Morgan State, however, didn't back down, managing to score a run in the late stages of the fourth inning.
Despite Army's early lead, Morgan State found their rhythm, tying the game in the fifth inning and taking the lead in the sixth.
The Bears ultimately triumphed over the Black Knights, securing a 3-2 victory.
Newburn led the offensive charge for Army, going two-for-three with one RBI, while Kayla Edwards also contributed with a two-for-three performance.
Game 2 vs. Wagner:
Army and Wagner engaged in a tight battle, with neither team able to break the deadlock for the majority of the game.
Parker Llantero, the lead off hitter for the Black Knights, had a stellar start, going two-for-two with a quick single in the opening play of the first inning and another single in the bottom of the third.
Pitcher Amanda Eaglin maintained her dominance at the start, holding Wagner hitless for the first two innings.
It wasn't until the fifth inning that Army managed to get on the scoreboard. With two outs, Edwards stepped up to the plate and delivered a single RBI, bringing Sam Bocis home and giving Army the lead.
Following Edwards' lead, Newburn added to the tally with a single, collecting two more RBI and extending Army's lead to 3-0.
Eaglin continued her strong performance from the pitcher's mound, pitching a complete game, conceding no runs, and limiting Wagner to just three hits.
Army secured a 3-0 victory over the Seahawks.
Llantero and Edwards both finished the game hitting 2-for-3, with Edwards contributing one RBI, while Newburn finished hitting 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Next up: The Black Knights will return to action on Saturday, March 16, as they travel to Lawrenceville, New Jersey to take on Rider University.
