Lewis Named a Lombardi Award Semifinalist

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army defensive lineman and team captain Kyle Lewis has been named a semifinalist for the Lombardi Award.
Lewis is one of 12 semifinalists nationally for the award.
This season he has started in all eight games on the defensive line, totaling 22 tackles (12 solo), three sacks for -19 yards and has forced a fumble.
Lewis, a senior from Scottsdale, Ariz. has played in 24 games and counting for the Black Knights.
The preseason watch list featured 90 of the nation's top linemen and linebackers. Based on previous performances and potential for the coming season, this list consists of a select group of talented athletes representing the very best from all FBS conferences and independents.
The Lombardi Award™ was established in 1970 in memory of legendary coach Vince Lombardi. It is presented to outstanding linemen who best epitomize their values of leadership, courage, performance, and discipline on and off the field. Furthermore, the watchlist includes players who consistently show the values of strength, agility, and football acumen in their respective positions.
The Lombardi Award™ represents much more than the distinction involved. It memorializes the perspiration, dedication, and perseverance of these exceptional athletes. As they compete on the gridiron, they inspire future generations of football players and continue the legacy of a coaching icon.
