Softball To Play For The Patriot League Championship With Win Over Lehigh

Boston, MA – The Army West Point softball team (22-36, 10-8 PL) advance to the Patriot League Championship with a win over the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks (40-14, 16-2 PL). Amanda Eaglin had a strong outing in the circle with six innings pitched, three strikeouts and allowing only two runs. Big performances at the plate from Taylor Brown and Lauren Little helped the Black Knights push pass Lehigh. Brown had two RBIs and a solo home run, while Little had two RBI singles.

How it Happened

Both teams had a slow first inning with just one hit coming from Lehigh and no runs scored on either side. Army left one runner on in the second, where Lehigh would score their first two runs. Sydney Parlett singled to center and advanced to second on a walk. Mountain Hawk Lindsey Martin doubled to right center bringing in both base runners.

Army answered with an immediate response in the top of the third. Lauren Little walked followed by a Brook Mitchell bunt that put her on first. Taylor Brown hit a single up the middle scoring both runners and tying the game at two.

In the top of the fourth inning, Lauren Little hit an RBI single down the first base line bringing home Kaci Donaldson giving Army a three to two lead. Catcher Maddie Wilkes scored on a Lehigh error extending the lead to two runs.

The score remained the same until the top of the sixth inning. Maaika Dones pinch ran for Maddie Wilkes and scored an unearned run bringing the lead to three runs.

Taylor Brown hit a solo home run to left field scoring the sixth and final run for Army. A great team effort from the Black Knights as pitcher Amanda Eaglin pitched six innings giving up two runs and recording three strikeouts. Olivia Farris came in the close out the seventh where she gave up no runs and sealed the win for Army.

Lauren Little went 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs.
Amanda Eaglin had 6 IP, 2 R, and 3 SO.
