Softball Closes Out Season and Claims Second Place With Loss in Patriot League Championship

Boston, MA – The Army West Point softball team (22-37, 10-8 PL) ended their 2022-2023 season with a loss in the Patriot League Championship to the Boston University Terriers (51-8, 17-1 PL). Taylor Brown went two for four with two singles. Lauren Little and Angelina Bebek accounted for the other two of Army's four total hits. Designated Player Taylor Brown, pitcher Alicyn Grete and shortstop Lauren Little were selected to the All-Tournament Team.

How it Happened

With only two total runs scored, one in the bottom of the fourth and the other in the bottom of the sixth, this game was a defensive battle from the start.

Army threatened early with runners on second and third in the first inning, but could not bring home a run. The Terriers responded by hitting back to back singles and landing runners on first and second. The Black Knights tightened up the defense to come up with a big double play before Emily Gant grounded out to pitcher Alicyn Grete for the last out of the inning.

The second and third innings were identical with both teams going three up and three down. Boston University scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth. Caitlin Coker doubled down the right field line and later scored on a Lauren Nett RBI single.

Army recorded two hits through the fifth and sixth innings. Lauren Little singled up the middle in the fifth followed by a Angelina Bebek single in the top of the sixth. The Terriers scored their second and final run of the game in the bottom on the sixth. Caitlin Coker hit a triple to right center and stole home to extend the Boston lead.

Pitcher Alicyn Grete pitched all six innings allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits.
