Softball Splits Doubleheader with Bucknell After Clutch Hits by Bebek and Brown

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Army West Point softball team (15-23, 6-2 PL) split the Saturday doubleheader vs. the Bucknell Bison (10-21, 2-6 PL), dropping Game 1, 6-4 but came from behind to take Game 2, 3-2.
Game 1: Bucknell struck early for two runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Zoie Smith and RBI single by Savannah Jones to take a 2-0 lead. Savannah Jones (1-6) was also on the mound for the Bison, pitching a complete game, holding Army to just one hit through five innings.
Army rallied late scoring one run in the sixth and then three in the seventh by way of two RBI ground outs by Taylor Brown and Kayla Edwards to narrow the deficit, but Bucknell was able to hang on for the 6-4, Game 1 victory.
Brook Mitchell was 1-3 with a 2B, RBI and R.
Army starter Amanda Eaglin (5-6) took the loss, working 4.0 innings, giving up eight hits, three runs and only two earned runs.
Game 2: The Army offense was held quiet through the first five innings by Bucknell starter Olivia Marinelli.
Bucknell scored two runs in the second off Army starter Alicyn Grete to make it a 2-0 game.
Running out of time to make something happen, the Army bats woke up in the bottom of the sixth. Angelina Bebek hit a two-run single to tie the game and then Taylor Brown hit a go-ahead line drive single up the middle to score Bebek and give Army its first lead of the afternoon at 3-2.
Grete, then worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning and give Army the win and split the Saturday doubleheader.
Grete (2-6), picked up the win, working a complete game, and giving up zero earned runs.
