No. 13 Men's Lacrosse Dominates No. 9 Loyola 10-5 to Extend Win Streak to Seven
March 25, 2023 | Men's Lacrosse
WEST POINT, NY – The No. 13 Army West Point men's lacrosse team (7-1, 4-0 Patriot League) picked up its seventh consecutive win on Saturday afternoon in a 10-5 win over No. 9 Loyola at Michie Stadium.
The win is another example of the Black Knights success against the top teams in the country. It marked their ninth win over a top-10 ranked team since 2017 and the second of the season.
The first half was a tale of two quarters as the first quarter was a back and forth affair with seven total goals and the second quarter was a defensive slug fest with only three goals. Jacob Morin opened the scoring just over a minute into the game to put the Black Knights up 1-0.
After Loyola's Mustang Sally tied things at one, Will Coletti and Morin netted two more goals to make it at 3-1 game.
The Greyhounds would cut the deficit back to one but Cal Lambert would respond with a wild goal where it seemed like the ball teleported through the Loyola defense into Lambert's stick then into the back of the net to make it 4-2 Army.
Loyola tied things up at 4-4 early in the second quarter but Morin responded soon after with his third goal of the game to put Army back in front.
The Auburn, NY native wasn't done in the first half. He scored his fourth of the half while Army had a two-man advantage to give them a 6-4 lead going into halftime.
Goalie Knox Dent left with an injury with 6:34 left in the third. Dent was spectacular making save after save in his time on the field. He made seven total saves including three in a hectic 15 second span. Matt Chess came in and played lights out, only allowing one goal and making three saves.
For the second straight game, Army's defense held their opponent scoreless in the third quarter. They took an 8-4 lead going into the fourth.
After a Bailey O'Connor goal to make it 9-4, the Greyhounds scored with 9:26 left in the fourth. The Black Knights defense held Loyola scoreless for 27:17. Bailey O'Connor joined the party, netting Army's 10th goal of the day to take a commanding 10-5 lead that would hold until the end of the game.
The Black Knights win streak currently sits at seven and they've won every game since their season opener.
Army now shifts its focus to Bucknell. They'll face off Saturday, April 1 at noon at Michie Stadium on ESPN+.
