March 18, 2023 | Men's Lacrosse
BETHLEHEM, PA – The Army West Point lacrosse team (6-1, 3-0) used an electric second half to top Lehigh (5-2, 2-1) by a score of 12-10 to earn its sixth straight win and remain undefeated in Patriot League play.
The Black Knights had a balanced scoring attack with eight different players scoring at least one goal, three of which scored multiple. Evan Plunkett led the way with a hat trick.
Reese Burek opened the scoring with a rocket to take a 1-0 lead with 12:44 left in the first quarter.
Lehigh responded by scoring the next three goals taking a 3-1 lead. Jacob Morin ripped a man-up goal to cut the deficit to just one. Then with 14 seconds left, Plunkett netted the equalizer to end the first quarter tied up a three apiece.
Morin scored his second goal of the game in the second quarter but Army went into halftime down 6-4.
Once the second half started Army came out on fire. Cal Lambert, Joey Stillings, Plunkett, and Gunnar Fellows all scored to give the Black knights an 8-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The run was pushed to 5-0 once Burek opened the fourth up with his second goal of the game to Army up 9-6. After Lehigh got one back, Plunkett and Avi Mehl would quickly end any momentum the Mountain Hawks had to go back up by four.
Paul Johnson scored the 12th and final goal of the game and Army would hold off a late Lehigh rally to win 12-10.
This is Army's first win at Lehigh since 2017 when they won 6-4. The win also snapped a two-game skid to the Mountain Hawks.
The Black Knights return to Michie Stadium to take on No. 11 Loyola on Saturday, March 25 at noon.
