#17 Men's Lacrosse Bests Lafayette at Home, 17-9

WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point men's lacrosse (5-1, 2-0 Patriot League) outscored Lafayette (2-5, 0-2 Patriot League) 8-2 in the fourth quarter to eventually take down the Leopards by a score of 17-9.
On a rainy Friday night at Michie Stadium, the two teams began stagnant on the offensive end as the score was 1-1 after the opening quarter. Gunnar Fellows had evened the score at one with 11:33 to play as the teams went scoreless for over 12:30 of total game time. Army got back on top with goals coming from Jacob Morin and Paul Johnson as the Leopards didn't find their second goal of the game until there was 6:21 remaining in the first half. The teams then traded goals before the break, with tallies from Morin and Finn McCullough giving Army a 5-4 lead at halftime. Knox Dent made seven saves in the cage in the first half hour.
After a five-minute scoreless stretch to begin the second half, Fellows found Evan Plunkett for his first tally of the contest to make it a 6-4 Black Knights advantage. With two quick tallies, inclduing one with man-up, Lafayette tied the score at six midway through the third. Army responded with three goals in 80 seconds to jump out to a 9-6 lead. Reese Burek and Bailey O'Connor got on the board with their first tallies while Morin secured his hat trick. Another Leopards man-up goal made it a two-goal game heading into the fourth.
Will Coletti set the tone in the final frame, scoring directly off one of his 13 faceoff wins.Burek and O'Connor followed suit, giving Army a comfortable 12-7 lead with 12 minutes to play. After a Lafayette goal to cut it down to four, Army used a 5-0 spurt to push the final scoreline to 17-9. Burek and O'Connor each netted their hat tricks, while Morin tallied his fourth to lead all Black Knights. Johnson became the fourth Army player to log a three-goal effort, scoring the final two goals for Army.
Knox Dent made 10 saves on 18 shots faced for the Black Knights while Coletti made good on 13 of 23 faceoffs. Army extended its winning streak to five games with the victory, and will take on Lehigh next Saturday on the road at 1:00 p.m.
