Max Itagaki Named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month

WALTHAM, MA - Army West Point hockey freshman Max Itagaki was named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month for the second time this season, announced today by the league.
Itagaki led the conference in assists during the month of February, logging two goals and 10 assists in nine games during the month. He logged back-to-back games with two assists versus Sacred Heart and Holy Cross in a pair of Army victories from February 7-10. He went on to score the game-winning overtime goal for his third tally of the season against Mercyhurst. In game two against the Lakers, he recorded three assists for a career-high three point night. He earned his third Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week honors following the series. Ending the season on a four-game point streak, Itagaki scored in game one at Bentley before assisting on the power-play in game two.
Itagaki's scoring pace has been unmatched in Atlantic Hockey's history from a freshman. His 29 assists ranks first all-time among freshman in a single season, having surpassed the previous record of 27 with over two games to play. His 29 assists ranks fourth in the country among freshman, and leads the entire conference in assists while his 33 points ranks second in Atlantic Hockey.
Army begins its playoff run with an AHA Quarterfinal series this weekend (Mar. 3-5) at fourth-seeded Canisius.Â
