Golf in Action at Two Tournaments

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point golf team competed at both the Veterans Invitational on Long Island and the first round of the Kapolei Invitational in Hawaii.

The Black Knights placed 10th at the Veterans Invitational with a team score of 629 (+50), while Army sits 18th after the opening round of the Kapolei Invitational with a 2-over round as a team. Long Island University won the Veterans Invitational at Sebonack Golf Club with a 6-over team score, which was 17 strokes ahead of Iona, who finished second. In Hawaii, Florida Gulf Coast has the lead after shooting a 20-under 268 on the first day.

Bucknell's Alex Creamean won the individual title at Sebonack with a pair of 2-under 70 scores to win by three strokes. Riley Lewis and Jason Tang share the lead at Kapolei Golf Club after they both shot a 7-under 65 in round one.

TOURNAMENT NOTES
• Drew Jeffords was Army's top player on Monday at the Kapolei Invitational with an opening round 70 (-2).
• He currently sits in a tie for 37th on a large leaderboard with a lot of negative numbers.
• Jeffords went 1-under on both the front and back nines and had four birdies.
• John Heckel Jr. posted an opening round 71 (-1) and is tied for 49th.
• Heckel had an up-and-down round, but recovered with six birdies, including one on the 17th to get back to 1-under for the round.
• Rob Ferris also played for the Black Knights and finished with an even par 72 with three birdies during his opening round.
