Football Shutout at Home To Troy

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Army West Point football team (2-4) fell to the Troy Trojans (5-2), 19-0 at Michie Stadium. For the second week in a row, Army played in a cold, wet, and rainy game at Michie Stadium. Troy posted 449 total yards, led by WR Jabre Barber's career-high 138 yards on four receptions. The nation's leading rusher RB Kimani Vidal rushed 23 times for 118 yards, his fourth 100-yard performance of the season.
On Troy's first offensive drive, QB Gunnar Watson hit Barber for a gain of 47 yards on a slant to set the Trojans up at Army's nine-yardline The Army defense held in the redzone and forced a field goal made by K Scott Taylor Renfroe from 24 yards out.
The Black Knights were driving on their second drive of the game after runs of 18 and 10 by QB Bryson Daily and then a 13-yard reception by WR Noah Short to get down to the Troy 23-yardline. However, RB Tyrell Robinson fumbled with Troy recovering to stall a promising drive.
Troy's Watson connected again with Barber on a deep pass for 53 yards, however, Barber fumbled on the play with the tackle by DB Max DiDomenico as LB Leo Lowin recovered at Army's own two-yardline, preventing a potential score.
Early in the second quarter, Troy threatened again at Army's 18-yardline, but Army held with great pass coverage on a shot to the endzone intended for Barber by DB Casey Larkin to force a 35-yard field goal by Renfroe to extend Troy's lead to 6-0.
Later in the quarter, Watson found Barber yet again for a pickup of 29 yards which was capped off by a 32-yard field goal by Renfroe to push Troy's lead to 9-0 as the Army defense held again in the redzone.
With 32 seconds until the break, Watson connected deep down the left sideline with Chris Lewis for a 52-yard touchdown, the lone touchdown of the game, as the Trojans took a 16-0 lead into the locker room.
To open the second half, Troy marched ten plays and added to its lead on the fourth field goal of the game by Renfroe, drilling from 43 yards out.
Army's defense played better in the second half, only allowing the one field goal.
Offensively, Army struggled going 2-13 on third downs in the game, totaling 255 total yards. Freshman QB Champ Harris played the entire second half, after Daily left the game with an injury in the second quarter. Harris passed 6-13 for 63 yards and had an interception. Before leaving the game, Daily was 3-4 passing for 15 yards and rushed 10 times for 46 yards.
Army freshman RB Kanye Udoh rushed for a season-best 124 yards on 18 carries (6.9 avg.), becoming the first Army freshman rush over the century mark since Tyrell Robinson rushed for 126 yards vs. Abilene-Christian on 10/3/2020.

Carrying the Flag: DB Quindrelin Hammonds led the team out with the Black Flag.
DIVISION OF THE GAME: Army honored the 11th Airborne Division with a logo decal on the players helmet and coaches' headsets. The 11th Airborne Division "Arctic Angels" is a United States Army airborne formation based in Alaska. In the summer of 2022, the U.S. Army Alaska headquarters was redesignated as the 11th Airborne Division, and the two Brigade Combat Teams in Alaska, the 1st Brigade Combat Team and 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, were transferred to the 11th Airborne Division and redesignated as the 1st and 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the 11th Airborne Division.
• Army drops to 0-2 all-time vs. Troy as they also played last season, a 10-9 Troy win in Troy. AL.
• Army is now 4-6 under Monken (2014-pres.) vs. Sun Belt opponents.
• It was the first time that Army was shutout at home at Michie Stadium since 2003.
• Sophomore LB Kalib Fortner had a team-high eight tackles.
• Freshman WR Tobi Olawole logged two receptions for 22 yards.
• Next week, Army will travel to Baton Rouge, La. to play LSU with kickoff slated at 7:30pm EST. This is the second all-time meeting between Army and LSU and the first since 1931.
