BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Army West Point football team (2-5) fell to the #19 LSU Tigers (6-2) under the lights at Tiger Stadium 62-0, the first-time the two schools met in 92 years.
LSU QB and Heisman contender Jayden Daniels threw for 279 yards and three touchdown passes, adding in a touchdown on the ground to pace the Tigers' offensive attack. LSU, the nation's No. 2 team in total offense, extended its streak of consecutive games with 500+ total yards, to seven games, a school record.
The LSU Tigers received the opening kickoff and quickly marched 75 yards in eight plays to score on a two-yard touchdown run by RB Logan Diggs.
Leading the Army offense was Freshman QB Champ Harris, making his first collegiate start. Harris passed 4-9 for 22 yards on the night. In the second half, freshman QB Larry Robinson saw a majority of the snaps, passing 2-6 for 20 yards and rushing twice for 17 yards.
Harris got his first completion of the evening on an out route to WR Ay'Jaun Marshall for a gain of nine yards in the first quarter.
The Tigers struck quickly again on an 86-yard touchdown pass from QB Jayden Daniels to WR Brian Thomas Jr to take a 14-0 with 5:25 to go in the opening quarter.
The Black Knights' offense began moving into LSU territory before a promising drive was stalled on a Champ Harris interception, picked off by LSU's S Andre Sam. LSU would score again on the second Daniels to Thomas Jr connection, a pitch and catch from eight yards out to take a 21-0 early in the second quarter. Harris Jr finished with a game-high 122 yards on three receptions and had a pair of touchdowns.
Daniels would later in the second quarter push into the endzone on a one-yard QB sneak to extend LSU's lead to 28-0.
The Tigers got the ball back in Army territory after a failed fourth-down conversion from the Black Knights. Army's defense was able to hold and force a 35-yard field goal which was knocked in to make it a 31-0 game with 2:19 left in the half.
After an Army three-and-out, LSU was able to go 72 yards on three plays capped by a 26-yard touchdown pass from Daniels to WR Malik Nabers. LSU went into the half with a 38-0 lead, as a Hail Mary pass from Harris on the final play was intercepted by Zy Alexander at the goal line.
In the second half, another Army freshman QB saw action, Larry Robinson. The Black Knights drove down the Tigers' 28-yard line on the opening drive of the half, before being stopped on fourth-and-two for a turnover on downs.
Garrett Nussmeier came in at QB for the Tigers, connecting with Nabers for a 51-yard touchdown pass before a 32-yard field goal made it 48-0 through three-quarters of action.
LSU would add two more late scores in the fourth quarter to make it a 62-0 game.
LSU WR Malik Nabers totaled four receptions for 121 yards and also had two touchdowns.
