DALLAS – After winning the golf Star Match last week, John Heckel Jr. competed at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup at Trinity Forest Golf Course and finished in a tie for 19th at 5-under par.

The junior team captain was invited to play as an individual and represent the Black Knights at the event.

Heckel Jr. opened his play with a first-round 72 (E) on Monday morning and then went back out in the afternoon and shot a 3-under 69. He had five birdies during his round and shot up the leaderboard heading into the final day.

On Tuesday, he started on the back nine and was 2-over through nine, but fought back with four birdies on the front. His 4-under on the front nine gave him a 2-under 70 in the third round. He was tied with Howard's Gregory Odom Jr. as the top individual finisher on the leaderboard.

Next up for Heckel Jr. and the Black Knights is the Bush Cup against Georgia Southern on Oct. 17 at Congaree Golf Club in Ridgeland, S.C.
