Army Drops Senior Day to Boston

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Army West Point Softball (18-31, 8-7) celebrated senior day on Sunday afternoon but dropped the single game to Boston University (37-13, 15-0), 11-1, in five innings.
Army was down in the opening half inning of the contest as Boston scored two runs on four hits for an early 2-1 lead. Emily Iannotti (7-6) retired the Terriers in the top of the second to get Army to the plate. Jolie Duong hit a one-out single in the bottom of the inning to get momentum going for the Black Knights. Lauren Little traded places with Duong as Duong was at second out on a fielder's choice. The runner was left on base, and Army went back to the field.
In the top of the third Boston extended its lead to 10-0 at the Terriers scored eight runs on six hits and two errors. Ellie Caldwell grounded the final out of the frame to stranded three runners on base.
Army attacked in the bottom of the fourth scoring one run off two hits and one error. Leila Hurst opened with a leadoff single through the left side. Two batters later, Duong fired off the other single of the half inning for the Black Knights and loaded the bases. Little put the ball in play with the bases loaded to bring in Maddie Wilkes on third, making the score 11-1.
Boston scored one more run in the top of the fifth increasing its lead to 11-1. Army was unable to score in the bottom of the fifth, making the final score 11-1 in five innings.
