WEST POINT, N.Y. – The 12th-ranked Black Knights opened Patriot League play with a 14-8 win over the Holy Cross Crusaders on Sunday at Michie Stadium.
GAME SUMMARY
Army displayed a balanced scoring attack while the midfielders provided defensive stops leading to transition scoring opportunities. The Black Knights had a stretch where they outscored the Crusaders, 10-2, which broke open the game.
The teams alternated goals in the first quarter with Danny Kielbasa netting the tying goal at 3-3 with 1:41 left in the quarter which started the 10-2 run over the next two quarters. Army shut out Holy Cross in the second quarter to seize control of the contest. Four different Cadets – Bobby Abshire, Liam Davenport, Gunner Philipp, and Jacob Morin – found the back of the net in the quarter as Army went into halftime with a 7-3 lead.
The Crusaders score two early goals in the third quarter to cut Army's lead to 7-5 with 12:54 remaining. However, the Black Knights answered with a 5-0 run powered by a pair of goals by Jackson Eicher at the 4:44 and 3:50 marks. Both teams scored twice in the fourth quarter with James Pryor scoring his first of the season and Philipp collecting his second of the game.
CADET CAPSULES
- Brendan Nichtern shared game-high honors in assists with three to move with 15 assists away from tying Tim Pearson '02 for the all-time mark. He is 16 points away from tying Pearson for first on the scoring list. He also had two ground balls.
- Paul Johnson led the Black Knights with four points – two goals and two assists.
- Jackson Eicher scored a career-high two goals in his fourth career game.
- Bobby Abshire scored two goals for his third straight multi-goal game.
- Gunner Philipp netted a season-high two goals.
- Wyatt Schupler made 13 saves for a .619 save percentage.

- Army won its 14th consecutive game at Michie Stadium, which is the longest active streak in NCAA Division Men's Lacrosse.
