Army Earns a Point; Splits Series With Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Army West Point hockey earned another key point in Atlantic Hockey play tonight after falling in overtime to Air Force, 3-2.
The extra point helped Army maintain its position in the Atlantic Hockey standings. The Black Knights now sit in fourth place with 28 points, one ahead of Air Force (27).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Similar to game one, Air Force came out of the locker room with energy, looking to attack the Black Knights offensive zone. Army's starting goaltender, Gavin Abric managed to turn away the first four Falcon shots before a shot snuck by to make it 1-0 Air Force. The Falcons held the 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Army stormed back in the second period, taking control of the game with their strong play. Daniel Haider connected with Eric Butte who lifted a shot to the top shelf to tie the game at one a piece. Just one minute and 22 seconds later, Joey Baez broke free of the defense and beat the goalie to give Army the lead early in the second period. Gavin Abric collected 12 saves in the frame to give the Black Knights a 2-1 advantage at the second intermission.
Air Force added a goal early in the third period to tie the game up at two goals a piece. Abric turned away the rest of the 12 shots he faced to force an overtime period.
Army created a few good scoring chances early in the 3-on-3 overtime period but were not able to find the game-winner. Air Force converted on an opportunity 4:08 into overtime to take the extra point in the contest.

Army will return to its home ice to host Mercyhurst next weekend. Games are set to take place on Friday and Saturday at 7:05 and 4:05, respectively.
