Hockey Drops Series Opener to Mercyhurst

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point hockey threw everything but the kitchen sink at the Mercyhurst Lakers tonight but couldn't find the offense it was looking for as Mercyhurst skated to a 4-0 victory.

Justin Evenson had another great performance off the bench for Army, making 23 saves while playing 46 minutes in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercyhurst stormed out of the gates, firing off six consecutive shots in the first two minutes of action. Army began to fight back, creating a few attempts of its own. The Lakers continued to push, eventually getting the first goal of the game at 8:37 in the period. Mercyhurst would go on to score two more goals in the period and would take a 3-0 lead into the locker room during the first intermission. Army tied a 2021-22 period high with 20 shots on net in the first frame.

Justin Evenson took over in between the pipes and turned in an impressive 23-save performance. He saved 10 shots in the second period in attempt to keep Army in the game. The Lakers would add another goal later on in the period off a rebound to take a 4-0 lead.

Army outshot Mercyhurst int eh final two periods, 13-11 and 14-8, respectively, but were held off the scoreboard by the Laker goalkeeper. Mercyhurst would go on to win the first game of the series with a 4-0 result.
