CSFL ANNOUNCEMENTÂ
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) office announced that there will be no fall 2020 season Friday afternoon in a release. The decision was made following a vote this week of the 10 CSFL member institutions. The vote followed lengthy conversations with key stakeholders throughout the league.
Â
The league also announced that Army and Navy may explore competitive opportuÂnities against each other during the fall as considered appropriate by the Superintendents of both institutions. This is due to the integral role that athletics plays as part the mission of both service academies to develop leaders and future United States armed forces officers.
Â
""I respect the very difficult decision made by the CSFL leadership and our colleagues at member institutions," Director of Athletics Mike Buddie said. "Similar to the Patriot League's decision, Army and Navy are specifically excepted from this policy and we will look for an opportunity to continue the greatest rivalry in college sports."
The CSFL remains committed to providing a meaningful season of intercollegiate competition for all impacted student-athletes. A move to the spring has been discussed with more details to be released by the league at a later date.
Â
"Although I'm extremely disappointed we are not playing a full season this fall, I'm grateful that there is still the chance that our cadet-athletes, especially our seniors, may play for a star against Navy," head coach Mark West said. "Hopefully, we'll be playing more football next spring."
Army West Point hopes to have an announcement regarding schedule updates soon.
