#15 Black Knights Come out on Top of Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – The Army West Point men's lacrosse team earned its first road win Saturday with a 16-8 victory at Lafayette.
The Black Knights improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in Patriot League action.
Brendan Nichtern led the Cadets with seven points on four goal and three assists. Miles Silva posted another five goals on the day as well. Nicholas Garofano and Danny Kielbasa recorded two assists each, while Connor DeWitt had a pair of tallies.
Wyatt Schupler made eight saves for his sixth victory of the season in net.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights took a 1-0 lead after a successful ride when Silva forced a turnover and Nichtern picked it up and scored.
- Lafayette netted its only goal of the half with 5:57 left in the first quarter, but the Black Knights rallied for a 10-0 run.
- Silva scored twice in the run and DeWitt, Stevie Grabher, Nickolas Edinger, Sean O'Brien and Jacob Morin all tallied one.
- Nichtern posted three more goals and two assists in the run as well.
- He scored with 15 seconds left in the half to put Army on top 11-1.
- Silva kicked off the second half with back-to-back goals before the Leopards tallied four of their own.
- Matthew Horace netted his first-career goal on transition, but Lafayette scored again to make it a 14-6 game heading into the final quarter.
- DeWitt and Silva scored two goals spaced four minutes apart to start off the fourth quarter.
- Lafayette finished the game with two goals to cut Army's advantage to 16-8.
HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- The Black Knights improved to 39-0 against the Leopards in the all-time series.
- Army had eight different goal scorers today, while 11 of the team's 16 goals were assisted.
- Nichtern continues to climb the record charts and has now jumped to 24th all-time with 126 points in his two years.
- He passed Ross Yastrzemsky '97 and Connor Cook '16 and is one away from tying for 22nd all-time.
- His career assist count is now at 77 which slates him seventh at Army jumping Cole Johnson '17 and Ted Harkin '78.
- For the second game in a row, Silva posted five goals which is a season high. He leads the Cadets this season with 22 goals scored.
- DeWitt finished with two goals, while Kielbasa and Garofano notched two assists each.
- Edinger scored his first of the year, while Horace's was the first in his career.
- Grabher won nine faceoffs today and picked up four ground balls to lead the team. The freshman also scored one goal.
- Marcus Hudgins, Nichtern, Sean O'Brien and Bennett Taylor all posted three ground balls today.
- Hudgins and Grabher caused two turnovers apiece.
- Schupler made eight saves, while allowing six.
- Army outshot Lafayette 50-37 and held an advantage in ground balls (33-32) and caused turnovers (12-7).
