Army Finishes Day 1 at GARC Championship; Hanson Takes Fifth in Smallbore

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Army West Point rifle wrapped up its first day competing at the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC). The Black Knights shot a team total of 2304 in the smallbore portion of the conference championship.
Clayton Hanson, who was named an All-GARC Second Team selection on Thursday, posted the third highest score of the match with a mark of 584 to qualify for the smallbore final. In the final he took fifth place.
The next highest Army score came from Lauren McMahan, who posted a 576. Ashley Clegg and Nicholas Cheshire closed out the scoring for the Black Knights with respective totals of 573 and 571.
Through the first day of competition, Army is situated in eighth place. The Cadets resume action on Saturday with the air rifle portion of the conference championship.
