Sharpshooters Just Miss School Record in Smallbore
November 04, 2025 | Rifle
CENTERVILLE, Va. The Army West Point rifle team just missed the school record in smallbore, firing a 2338, beating Air Force in that discipline, and though setting a season high aggregate, fell to the Falcons, 4707-4695, in closing out a service-filled academy weekend.
The Black Knights, who finished third at the President's Trophy Match Saturday, won by host Navy, took on Air Force in a dual match Sunday. Army's 2338 smallbore score was just one shy of the school mark.
Army captured first and second place honors and four of the top six smallbore spots en route to its season high. Sophomore Addison Antwiler (587) and freshman Hannah Dufresne (586) led the way, grabbing the top two spots, respectively. Senior Chris Jennings posted a 583, followed by sophomore Brenna Green's 582, in claiming the fifth and sixth spots.
Sophomores Nicholas Bull and Barbara Forgues chipped with identical 578s, with Bull grabbing 10th place based on center shots (32).
It was the second straight day the Black Knights beat Air Force in smallbore, having outshot their counterparts 2323-2309 the previous day at the President's Trophy Match.
Though Army raised its air rifle mark by 10 points (firing a 2357), it wasn't enough as the Falcons, who bested Army for runner-up honors Saturday at the Trophy Match, outpointed them 2376-2357 in the bid for the silver star.
Jennings led the way with a career 595 for second-place honors, one off the winner's mark, with Antwiler placing sixth (591) and Dufresne taking ninth (586). Green grabbed 12th place with a 585 in leading an Army contingent that captured the next six spots.
"It was a better match today, but we fell short of the silver star," commented head coach Leighton Dempster.
The Black Knights return to the range Nov. 15 when they travel to Memphis, Tenn.
